7 Years

Mother Nature has a warped sense of humor, bringing Isaac in on this date. Please keep the residents of Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parishes in your prayers, as they are flooded seven years to the day after they were devastated from Katrina.

Idiots on Parade 3

Old Akin has awakened the morons around the country. Here are some examples
"Idaho state Sen. Chuck Winder recently justified his opposition to abortion in cases of rape by questioning whether women really know what rape is."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Clayton Williams, TX
“As long as it's inevitable, you might as well lie back and enjoy it.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sharon Angle said a girl who was raped by her father and became pregnant should “make lemonade out of lemons.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Florida State Rep. Kathleen Passidomo apparently believes that the state's new school dress code will keep children safe from being raped:
"There was an article about an 11 year old girl who was gang-raped in Texas by 18 young men because she was dressed like a 21-year-old prostitute," she said. "And her parents let her attend school like that. And I think it’s incumbent upon us to create some areas where students can be safe in school and show up in proper attire so what happened in Texas doesn’t happen to our students." (so she deserved rape for dressing wrong?)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rep. Steve King: I’ve Never Heard Of A Girl Getting Pregnant From Statutory Rape Or Incest
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tennessee state Sen. Stacey Campfield falsely claimed that it was nearly impossible for someone to contract AIDS through heterosexual contact.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHERE did these empty heads come from? And I'm really scared of the folks that voted for them.

Scuzzbucket of the Week

Why, oh why can't we sterilize idiots? Why are people like this allowed to procreate? This poor child.

From NOLA dot com (yeah, I still visit there occasionally)

A 5-year-old girl from Kenner needed 22 staples to close a gash in her back that authorities said she received when her father used her body to shield himself from a knife attack by her mother. The little girl's parents, Maurice Sparkman, 26, and Kenisha Caples, 25, were arrested Sunday in connection with the incident.

The bloody confrontation started as an argument that occurred sometime Saturday evening at the couple's residence, listed as 341 Clemson Place in Kenner, according to arrest reports. It's not clear what the couple was bickering about, but the quarrel quickly turned physical.

Sparkman allegedly grabbed Caples, his live-in girlfriend, by her hair and threw her to the ground. Caples retaliated by grabbing several kitchen knives and launching them at her boyfriend, the arrest report said.

Sparkman ran upstairs and grabbed the couple's daughter, believing that she might bring a stop to his girlfriend's knife play. He held the girl between himself and Caples.

But an undeterred Caples allegedly grabbed a larger knife and began swinging it at them both "with no regard for the safety or welfare of the child," the arrest report said.

Insert my primal screams here....

Caples was booked with two counts of aggravated battery and second-degree cruelty to a juvenile. Sparkman was booked with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile and domestic abuse battery, arrest reports said.

Idiots on Parade 2

This week's idiot hails from the show me state of Missouri.

Todd Akin, the Republican nominee for Senate in Missouri who is running against Sen. Claire McCaskill, justified his opposition to abortion rights even in case of rape with a claim that victims of “legitimate rape” have unnamed biological defenses that prevent pregnancy.

“First of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare,” Akin told KTVI-TV in an interview posted Sunday. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

Akin said that even in the worst-case scenario — when the supposed natural protections against unwanted pregnancy fail — abortion should still not be a legal option for the rape victim.

“Let’s assume that maybe that didn’t work, or something,” Akin said. “I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be on the rapist and not attacking the child.”

What Scum of the Earth look like

Update 10/4/2012: NOLA dot com offers some background on the scumbags listed below at this link Be sure to watch the video halfway down the page as well.

Seven suspects in custody for the St. John Shooting two St. John the Baptist officers: Terry Smith, 44, Brian Smith, 24, Derrick Smith, 22, Kyle Joeckel, 28, Chanel Skains, 37, (married to Terry Smith, according to Facebook) Teniecha Bright, 21, and Britney Keith, 23. Missing the picture of Brian Smith (he is still in the hospital) Here's a picture of sweet Brian from his Facebook page. Class act, huh?
Deputies Brandon Nielsen and Jeremy Triche were shot and killed as they interviewed suspects that were believed to be involved in an earlier shooting at a parking lot that injured two other officers. The seven arrested are related to charges related the initial shooting of officers in the parking lot. Those officers were injured, but not killed. Charges involving the killing of the two officers at the trailer park have not yet been made. Joeckel and Brian Smith are in the hospital, and they will go directly to jail upon release. Riverview Trailer Park Landlord Carl Chaisson told WGNO News an unnamed trailer owner was disgruntled over losing his job at the nearby Valero refinery, and as a result, got into a dispute with a deputy near or at the facility.

The dispute escalated, Chaisson said, and shots were then fired at St. John deputies in the area of refinery's parking lot before the shooter returned to his trailer at Riverview.

Responding St. John deputies arrived shortly thereafter, and the trailer park shootout would ensue.

Neither St. John deputies nor Louisiana State Police, the leading investigative agency, would confirm Chaisson's claims about the motives.

August musings

Charlotte - the founder of the NOLAFemmes blog (where I occasionaly write) - has penned an eloquent post about what the months of August and September mean to those of us in the New Orleans area. Here's an excerpt:

August and September are the months I dread the most. They’re the hottest and most humid months in a city that’s often hot and humid and they are the most likely months to host hurricanes, with September 10 being the peak of the season. Although we New Orleanians bitch and moan about the humidity and heat we are a stalwart clan so we slog through these wretched months the only way we know how: dancin’, drinkin’ and singin’. We go to Satchmo Fest early to get seats under the tents and under the oaks and settle in for an afternoon of lawn chair bump-and-grind while keeping a firm grasp on our Abita’s.

Please go here to read the entire work, it's beautiful .
