A Petition of John Neely Kennedy from Louisiana Women

Please sign the petition at the link at the end of this post

To: Senator John Kennedy
US Senate

Senator,

Understand that we as Louisiana women are carefully watching your response to the impeachment of former President Donald Trump, your efforts to circumvent voting to convict him for inciting a riot by his supporters, and your defense of the delay in calling the National Guard when those armed and angry Trump supporters attacked the Capitol - supporters who were lied to by President Trump and many GOP members about the fair election of President Biden by the people of the United States as well as by the Electoral College. We are watching as you defend President Trump’s lack of immediate response to end the uprising when his supporters called for the Vice-President of the United States to be hanged and for the Speaker of the House to be assassinated. You have demonstrated a myriad of despicable and cowardly actions that clearly should not be the kind of “service” provided by a senator from Louisiana. We, the undersigned, have been horrified at your behavior and your interest in protecting your political position rather than in showing true concern for Americans, our state and our democracy.

Were you not on the floor of the Senate when these heinous actions were taken by thugs under the direction of former President Trump, damaging the sacred seat of our government, and being responsible for the death of five persons, including a Capitol police officer? Did you not hear the testimony from police union Chair Papathanasiou that 140 Capitol police officers were injured, with some officers sustaining brain injuries, cracked ribs, and spinal disc injuries? One officer is going to lose his eye, and another was stabbed with a metal fence stake. Are you ignorant of how former President Trump incited such violence? For weeks, he falsely claimed the election was fraudulent, including immediately before he urged his supporters to march to the Capitol Building. He encouraged the rioters to “Stop the steal!” and insisted the Biden presidency had to be challenged. His statements to the violent crowd included, "You will have an illegitimate president. That is what you will have, and we can't let that happen," and “If you don't fight like hell you're not going to have a country anymore.” If these actions do not serve as evidence for conviction of sedition, we cannot imagine what you believe would. Your actions and behavior have been an embarrassment to the vast majority of Louisianans since you were elected but your continued support of the former president since the election in November has been beyond the pale. Your response to the violence of January 6 represents the most reprehensible action we as voters intend to accept from a senator from our state.

Let the word go forth today, thousands of voters, Democrats, Republicans, and Independents vow to defeat you should you choose to run again for office from Louisiana. Please do not have one of your “form letters” sent to any of the signers of this missive. Many individuals who attempted to communicate their displeasure and anger with your support of Donald Trump have already received such nonsense from your office. The purpose of writing this letter is simply to tell you how so many of the voters of Louisiana feel about your lack of representation of our state, and to inform you that your days of representing us are numbered.

We hope you will reconsider your position. If not, we fervently promise to work to defeat you at the ballot box, with financial support and “feet on the ground” for the kind of senator we deserve.
