Books in need of a school

Got this in my email tonite:

Dear Judy,
My class (1st. grade) is collecting books to send to an elementary school that was damaged by Hurricane Katrina. We would like to contact a school that is really in need of books for their library or simply classroom teachers that lost their materials.
I am unfamiliar with the area, so I am not sure of the names of the local schools. I keep tring to search the web, but I am not very lucky. I have e-mailed a couple of principals and receive little or no response.
It is very important that we donate to a school that is in real need. My students have worked very hard. They have collected their bonus points all year from our book orders and have purchased the entire set of Junie B. Jones books.
Our project is called Operation Storybook. They even have a motto: Storybooks across the miles. Storybooks for every child. If this goes well I hope to make it a yearly project.
Thank you for your quick response. I hope that you will be able to help us.

Let's see, there's Brock Elementary, among others... I'll forward the link to a reformed first grade teacher friend. Are you looking for links or contacts?

The lady that contacted me is looking for interested parties. So I'd say contacts. Send the email I posted to whomever you think is interested and will follow thru.

Thanks.

Hi, I'm the "reformed" first grade teacher D'Loye sent the link to, and I've already been contacting a friend at a school that took on 7' of Katrina flood water. She will get back to me after school, and I'll get info to you!!!! Thank you sooo much! Beth

Ok Judy, I've got the info needed! Please send the books to First Grade Teacher Ms. Renee Arsenault
Abney Elementary School
825 Kostmayer Ave.
Slidell, LA 70458

The school's phone no. is 985-643-4044

This school took on 7-8' of water, the teachers lost everything in their classrooms, and yet the school is back and enrollment is up to 825 again close to its pre-Katrina level of over 900. When I retired recently after 27 yrs. of first grade I was able to give my total accumulation of teaching supplies and files etc. to this grateful teacher. She shares with the other 15 First Grade teachers. Believe me when I say they are truely deserving of this donation of books.
