A Sweet Moment

When Trump agreed to a short reconcilliation meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky before Pope Francis’ Funeral, little did he know that he was walking into an ambush.

After Trump’s disgraceful behaviour on camera supported by his gang members in the Oval Office last month, this was to prove a sweet moment for the world.

As Trump and Zelensky moved towards a prepared seating area, Trump noticed three chairs had been prepared. As French President Macron entered the conversation Trump realised the importance of the third chair and insisted it was removed. Disappointing as this counter stroke was to Zelensky, Macron made it abundantly clear that he was there to support the Ukrainian leader by making a brotherly handshake while avoiding contact with Trump who had extended his hand. Presidents do not accidentally avoid shaking hands.

Moments later reinforcements arrived in the form of UK Prime Minister Starmer who fixed his gaze firmly on Zelensky as he spoke. Trump could be seen standing forlornly on the edge of the group understanding he had been emotionally pushed aside.

Once seated the body language of the two is worthy of comment. The dangers of body language are we will often see what we want to see. I might be the same, but my interpretation is this:

The seats are drawn very close together. Perhaps for reasons of clarity or security, but Zelensky appears comfortable.

Trump’s superior height fails to impress. Zelensky looks like a slim, fit boxer, chin down, unfazed, and ready for a fight. Trump looks old, bent over and frail.

Zelensky’s feet are placed firmly on the ground, his knees apart and hands held together relaxed and comfortable. Trump’s feet are drawn back under the chair showing discomfort and a readiness to retreat quickly.

Zelensky is forward on his seat, dominating the space. Trump is sat back in his chair. Zelensky’s eyes are serious. he holds Trump’s gaze without fear. Trump has nowhere to run and no gang to interrupt and ask prepared questions. One to one, the bully lost his confidence.

Zelensky’s dominance was further enhanced when he exited into the main public square. The crowd erupted into a polite but poignant, ripple of applause. This was not repeated when Trump appeared. Improperly dressed in a blue suit and tie, Trump appeared as welcome as an unpleasant odour at dinner.

Returning home, Trump posted his opinions on social media claiming his negotiations with Ukraine and Russia were making good progress. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Proposals presented by Ukraine and supported by European leaders are a much more serious and well considered foundation for progress. These proposals to end the war, were given to the US negotiating team on April 23rd in London when Ukraine and Europe rejected Trump’s disgusting Ukrainian surrender plan.

The Ukrainian/ European proposals include:

An immediate unconditional ceasefire before territorial agreements can be negotiated.

Ceasefire to be monitored by the US. (Something Trump rejected).

Ukraine offered “robust” security guarantees.

Ukraine fully compensated for damage caused by war. Moneys to be drawn from frozen Russian assets.

Earlier this month Trump had threatened to walk away from Ukraine if his seven-point ‘final offer’ was rejected before the end of this month. However, in comments on April 25th he said ‘those deadlines no longer apply.’ With his waning popularity at home and abroad, few people are paying attention to his bluster.

At the same time Trump’s envoy to Moscow, Steve Witcoff met Putin in Moscow. Witcoff walked into a meeting without support or his own interpreter. This spider must have enjoyed wrapping this insect in his web for future consumption.

Witcoff, like Trump and their MAGA team have built success on repeating lies until enough people believe them. This only works for so long. One can’t fool all the people all the time. Outside the USA, few are listening anymore.

Trump’s star is waning, but Zelensky’s, deservedly, - shines brighter than ever.

Advice for the DNC

You want to know why Democrats got their asses handed to them in November? From where I’m sitting, it’s pretty damn clear: mixed messaging, constant pandering to fringe left groups, and this clueless obsession with performative activism. You can’t scream about the Constitution when MAGA tramples due process, then turn around and push for Second Amendment bans just because you don’t like certain guns. That’s not how any of this works. Knock that shit off. Mass shootings aren’t happening because AR-15s exist — they happen because America has a deeply rooted violence problem. It’s layered. It’s mental health, culture, access, background checks — all of it. You want real solutions? Great. Let’s talk. But “ban the scary gun” isn’t a serious plan. It’s a lazy soundbite. And no, you’re not going to “take all the guns.” Stop fantasizing about it. Democrats need to stop trying to cosplay as some far-left Tumblr thread and start speaking to the center — to independents and moderates who actually swing elections. Get your head out of the sand. You’re not going to get everything you want, and that’s the price of living in a functioning democracy. If you want to actually win, start acting like you understand how America works. Now let’s talk about the MAGA crowd. These people aren’t conservatives — they’re angry, insecure, anti-intellectual authoritarians who think America peaked in 1950. They don’t care about the Constitution. They care about control. They want white, Christian nationalism wrapped in a flag and sold as patriotism. And they’re willing to burn the whole system down to get it. Yes, Biden fumbled the border early on. But he course-corrected. He cut illegal immigration down, and even tried to pass a bipartisan border bill — which Trump told his cult to kill. Why? Because solving problems isn’t the point. Chaos is. If we want to fix this country, the electorate needs to wake the hell up. Stop clinging to purity tests. Stop playing team sports. Stop pretending your politician is your savior. No one’s going to check every box. You’re not going to get everything you want. This isn’t about you. It’s about what works for everyone. And what definitely doesn’t work is electing a convicted felon who can’t spell “Constitution,” screams about loyalty while he tramples the rule of law, and alienates every global ally we have. Trump is a national embarrassment — and MAGA’s entire goal is to own the libs for five seconds, even if it means gutting your rights in the process. So wake up. Grow up. And start voting like the future depends on it — because it does.

Thank you, Pope Francis

Pope Francis wrote this in the Hospital.

“The walls of hospitals have heard more honest prayers than churches... They have witnessed far more sincere kisses than those in airports... It is in hospitals that you see a homophobe being saved by a gay doctor. A privileged doctor saving the life of a beggar... In intensive care, you see a Jew taking care of a racist... A police officer and a prisoner in the same room receiving the same care... A wealthy patient waiting for a liver transplant, ready to receive the organ from a poor donor... It is in these moments, when the hospital touches the wounds of people, that different worlds intersect according to a divine design. And in this communion of destinies, we realize that alone, we are nothing.

The absolute truth of people, most of the time, only reveals itself in moments of pain or in the real threat of an irreversible loss. A hospital is a place where human beings remove their masks and show themselves as they truly are, in their purest essence. This life will pass quickly, so do not waste it fighting with people. Do not criticize your body too much. Do not complain excessively. Do not lose sleep over bills. Make sure to hug your loved ones. Do not worry too much about keeping the house spotless. Material goods must be earned by each person—do not dedicate yourself to accumulating an inheritance. You are waiting for too much: Christmas, Friday, next year, when you have money, when love arrives, when everything is perfect... Listen, perfection does not exist. A human being cannot attain it because we are simply not made to be fulfilled here. Here, we are given an opportunity to learn. So, make the most of this trial of life—and do it now. Respect yourself, respect others. Walk your own path, and let go of the path others have chosen for you. Respect: do not comment, do not judge, do not interfere. Love more, forgive more, embrace more, live more intensely! And leave the rest in the hands of the Creator.” —Pope Francis

Jimmy Carter Was Right

In a moment that should’ve stopped time, Jimmy Carter—quiet as a monk, sharp as a scalpel—offered a truth so unassuming, most missed the incision. He was speaking to Trump, but really, he was speaking to all of us.
Carter’s point was this: While China has spent decades laying tracks for the future, we’ve been digging graves in the past. They’ve built cities, schools, trains that move faster than thought. We’ve built military bases, debt, and an empire of rust.

It wasn’t a boast. It was an autopsy.
China chose infrastructure. We chose interference. They built railways across continents. We bombed bridges across borders. They invested in AI, medicine, and education. We invested in overthrowing oil-rich governments, branding it freedom.
We spent $300 billion trying to bend the world to our will. They spent it making their own nation unshakable.
We don’t have high-speed trains. We don’t have roads that last. We don’t have universal healthcare, or education systems that top the charts. But we do have the most advanced weapons on Earth, pointed at every direction but inward.
If we’d used even a fraction of that money on ourselves, our cities would hum like circuits. Our schools would shine. Our hospitals would heal. Our people might feel something we haven’t felt in a long time—progress.

That was Carter’s quiet bombshell: the war we’re losing isn’t to China. It’s to our own addiction to dominance. And our refusal to invest in anything we can’t control.
