Thought you might find this interesting. I recently read "Curse of the Narrows: The Halifax Disaster of 1917" by Laura M.MacDonald. There was a huge munitions explosion in Halifax harbor in early Dec 1917 that leveled a great deal of the city, burned homes, killed & injured many, left others homeless, destroyed the telegraph system, caused a tsunami, and that night the city was buried in a blizzard. Sounds like what happened to New Orleans, in a way. Yet, photos in the book show that by the end of January 1918 ---less than 2 months later, there were huge apartment buildings up --they look a bit like barns, so somewhat crude --for those who had lost their homes. I'm sure they didn't have enough built for everyone, but it was a start. I find it so sad that it is 3.5 yeas after New Orleans was flooded and still it seems not as much has been done as was accomplished in Halifax in 1917-1918. I know there is a lesson there. Too bad G.W. Bush and others in charge hadn't read that book.

Very Cool Map
