Marie Curie was an amazing person, becoming the first woman ever to win a Nobel prize for her research into radioactivity. She discovered radium and polonium, and made a huge contribution to the fight against cancer. So we can see where the mistake came from – why wouldn’t you want to commemorate her work with a fancy birthday cake? Unfortunately, that isn’t what one woman had in mind when she asked for a cake themed with Mariah Carey. Author Harriet Lye posted on Twitter: ‘My cousin in England told her colleagues she wanted a Mariah Carey birthday cake. ‘They misunderstood, and is the cake they made her instead. It’s Marie Curie, looking very festive.’
