HEY, WASHINGTON D.C.

'NUFF SAID.

Window Wednesday

Found this gem of a window in Olde Towne Slidell. It looks as if the designs are etched into the window. It's an old, dilapidated house. I'd love to have seen it in her prime.

Punish the Whistle Blowers

This almost feels like some thriller movie, but it is real life.

From the website , this video shows reactions to how an American soldier is treated like a rat for telling the truth about abominations happening in Iraq.

Manning was charged with 21 counts in connection with the leak of some 700,000 classified documents to the WikiLeaks website.

The most serious charge is “aiding the enemy.” which could carry a life sentence. The prosecution chose not to pursue capital punishment, which was an option.

It's amazing to see how our government gets bat shit paranoid over someone telling the truth (think Edward Snowden and Julian Assange)

In my opinion, these men did what they felt was the right things in their hearts, but they freaked out the U.S. Government, which is very paranoid about appearing complicit to the abominable actions they decided to commit.

I hope truth prevails, but I don't feel that it will. Someday, some way those that make dark, evil decisions will have to pay the price.

I would love to observe it, just as I observed the fall of Nixon.

Scuzzbucket of the Week

THIS is the face of a cold-blodded animal abuser.

Adrienne Martin, 35 years old, from St. Louis Missouri.

Martin chained a 3-year-old shepherd-terrier mix named Brownie on a short heavy chain and then set fire to his face and body. The dog belonged to her sister-in-law. Brownie apparently bit Martin's son, who had to go to the hospital for treatment. She initially denied setting the dog on fire, but later confessed to the crime.

This brilliant "human" even had the audacity of brag about what she did on her Facebook page .

I'm on killa mode .....#killdogs.com.....today..
she posted July 9. The posting was shared 36 times by animal advocates who called Martin “gross” and “sickening.”

The next day she posted
I mean what I say and I say what I mean....#alldogsdontgoheaven.com

“Brownie was helpless in escaping his abuser because he was anchored by a chain,” Stray Rescue said. “He later died.”

After the July 9 post, Martin returned to Facebook July 14 to respond to her critics. The St. Louis woman showed no remorse for her alleged behavior.

“MF's is killing me about this stupid dog ....keep it real...you didn't take care nor like or love the MF...on the TV str8 lies ...‪#‎laughingeveryday....stop b----..,” she wrote. That messaged was shared 31 times on Facebook.

She now faces felony animal abuse charges in Brownie’s death. Several websites are showing pictures of the murdered dog, but I can't even look at them, let alone share them.

Sickening.

Pelican Friday

Because there are SO many pelicans being located around Slidell, I decided to share more than one picture a week (and I forgot last week, no excuse).

This is "Honey Island Pete Pelican" by Len Heatherly. It is located on Gause Blvd. East in front of Dr. Jack Devereaux's office

This pretty bird is located right past Peck's Seafood on Gause East.

"Doctor Pelican" by Kenny Bridges sits ouside of Pelican Urgent Care also on
Gause Blvd East.

Slidell artist Adam Sambola created this tribute to New Orleans music. Entitled "Red Bean's Piano"
it's located at the Northshore Harbor Center right off the Eden Isles exit on I-10.

Update on Ellisville, Mississippi

UPDATE July 23: ELLISVILLE, Miss. -

WHLT 22 Connecting the Pine Belt

The Ellisville Animal Holding Facility that's received statewide attention online is demolished.

It had two windows and no air.

Several animal advocates said it was unfit.

It was a temporary holding facility for animals that were abused or unwanted.

According to Ellisville Mayor Tim Waldrup there were two animals there who were returned to their owners.

Now a local resident is helping raise money to build a new facility.

Scuzzbucket of the Week

Word is that there is a pit bull holding facility in Ellisville, Mississippi (near Hattiesburg).
I nominate the mayor of Ellisville, Mississippi: Tim Waldrup.

Apparently he is aware of a cinderblock building where Pittbulls are kept until they are put to death. Given the conditions of this buildings, euthanization is probably a relief for these poor dogs.

These dogs are kept in unsanitary, rusty kennels in a cinder block building that has no air conditioner and very little ventilation. The residents of Ellisville Ms have been in the dark about this place for many years. The building sits in a parking lot of the local community college.

The City workers say that they hold the dogs here for 5 days and then the dogs are euthanized. People in the area never knew what this building was, many just thought it was a storage building of some sorts.

Feel free to contact the 'good old boy' Mayor:

Tim Waldrup
P.O. Box 688
Ellisville, MS 39437
Phone: 601-477-3323

If you're interested, you can sign a petition for better treatment of these poor dogs here

Almost Every Obama Conspiracy Theory Ever

Mother Jones' website has a fantastic chart on all of the whacky conspiracy theories and paranoid stories at this link

It's a peek into conservative conspiracy theorists minds.

Here are a few examples:

Obama is bringing 100 million Muslims to America: Avi Lipkin and his PR outfit Special Guests claimed to have evidence of a scheme to bring roughly 100 million Muslims from the Middle East into the United States, converting the country into an Islamic nation by the end of Obama's second term and making it easier to obliterate Israel.

Obama once aided the mujahideen: Harlem pastor and professional race-baiter James David Manning contended that in his younger days, Obama went undercover as a CIA agent to facilitate the transfer of cash and weapons to the Afghan mujahideen in the '80s, thereby aiding what would become the Taliban.

Obama is in the pocket of the Muslim Brotherhood: Billy Graham's son Franklin wants you to know that Obama is allowing the Muslim Brotherhood to take over the federal government.

Obama redecorated the Oval Office in Middle Eastern style: Driven by his fierce sense of anti-American interior design, Obama got rid of the red, white, and blue decoration scheme in his White House office.

Wesley Hall

This was posted on FB over the weekend. Written by Wesley Hall,a 20 something young black man. It's an eye opener.

Man, I'm just glad I had a mom who gave me the realness from a young age. I can remember thinking she was so stuck in the past for telling me that I couldn't do or say or wear certain things, that I could not stay out as late as my white friends could, that I could not "experiment" with any of the things my white friends did. I struggled so much with her for trying to impress upon me the fact that I was different. Because I'm supposed to be. I lived in a nice house, spoke more than one language, was well educated and well socialized and I did not understand why I needed to constantly act in a manner designed to disarm another person's suspicions about me.

But wow, I get it now. Every black kid has that moment where he has to decide to accept the armor that his parents present to him to get through life as an American black male, or walk around naked. And the crazy part is, it’s probably something most people outside of the black community never see. I can remember my mom talking to me over and over and over again about what to do and who to call if I was ever picked up by a police officer. She made sure I knew that I needed to declare that I was exercising my Miranda rights rather simply evoke them without notice. If you were in JNJ your mom probably made you take a WHOLE FREAKING CLASS on how to deal with police officers and other people who were perceived to be threatening.

And I say that to say that as scary as people think black males are, black males are conditioned to be ten times more afraid of everyone else. We’re conditioned to be afraid of goin to certain parts of the country, afraid of people with certain political view, afraid of police officers, and sometimes even afraid of other black and latino males. The most sickening thing about this whole trial has been the deliberate campaign to rob Trayvon of his right to be afraid. I know I would have been.

And I owe her the deepest of apologies for all of the times that I accused her of overacting or impressing a vision of a society long since passed on the one that exists today.

It doesn’t matter how well traveled you are or how many languages you speak or who where you went to school. It doesn’t matter how many friends you have or how much good you’ve done in the world. From afar we are all the same.

It used to hurt when my mother would tell me I couldn’t put my hood up or that I couldn’t stay out as late as my white friends. She told me I was a young black male and I couldn’t afford these things and I figured she never knew how much it hurt for be to know that she did not have faith that I could transcend the many stereotypes that swirl around me and be seen as an individual.

But when I think about my own mother having to come down the police station, and Identify my naked body and come home and go in my room that would feel strangely empty. She would have to walk past my favorite custom built aquarium and the framed boards my class in japan made for me on my last day of study abroad, she would have to open my closet and go through all of the clothes I would never wear again and find my favorite suit and then walk out of a room where every object holds a memory.

She would have to go on interviews and meet with lawyers and try to be strong in the face of unimaginable tragedy. While people picked apart my character and found every facebook status where I cursed or every stupid picture I was ever captured in. She would have to sit in court and dignify people who sought to put me in the ground with not a shred of justice with her presence and her silence. And then on top of that, after a year of pain, to hear from 6 other mothers that my life meant nothing........

And the thought that after 24 hours of labor, thousands of dollars on tuition and extra curriculars and trips and summer activities, and millions of tiny sacrifices that she could be left with the dust of my memory and the guilt of having not prepared me for this thing called America.

I joke about it, but I know how much I mean to her. Before I go parasailing I think about her, and before I jump in the ocean I think about her, and when I had tigers crawling all over me and licking my face I was thinking about her. But I did those things because I knew that even if I got poisoned by a cobra or mauled by a tiger, I know it would have been hard.......but she would have derived comfort from knowing that I died pursuing happiness, adventure, and experiences that are worth their risks.

But I know that she would never ever be able to recover from knowing that I died the way that Trayvon died. And so I understand so well why she taught me to think about the world in the way that I do. To remember how to love life, be open to others, but to always remember who I am and to be so secure in who I am, that I accept that I must constantly think and behave with consideration for that one person who might think they already know.

I have fought with my mom, dad, and stepdad about what it means to be a young black man in 2013. And I have at times been annoyed at all of them for presenting me with my constraints. But I am so lucky to have been armed with the truth at such and early age. The world can be so confusing for us. So much kindness, and so much cruelty. We've all accused our parents of over estimating the dangers out there. But they managed to teach us not to allow this country to fill us with fear, while simultaneously not allowing it to rob us of our vigilance. Shout-out to all of the parents out there, giving that extra course on how to keep your children from being victimized in a society that does not believe that they can be victims.

Only in America

The outcome of the murder trial of Trayvon Martin is past. My heart ache and rage are far from over.

The tragedy of this whole mess is the poor performance of the prosecution. In reading this article about the paranoid employees of the diva-drama queen Angela Corey I see a very dysfunctional office.

I did not pay attention to the trial except thru NPR, but from what I have gleaned, the prosecution was negligent to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that George Zimmerman was guilty.

Speaking of Angela she was indicted in early July by a citizens' grand jury, convening in Ocala, Florida, over the alleged falsification of the arrest warrant and complaint that led to George Zimmerman being charged with the second degree murder of African-American teenager Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida.

The indictment of Corey, which was handed down last week (see www.citizensgrandjury.com), charges Corey with intentionally withholding photographic evidence of the injuries to George Zimmerman's head in the warrant she allegedly rushed to issue under oath, in an effort to boost her reelection prospects. At the outset of this case, black activists such as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, who whipped up wrath against Zimmerman, demanded that he be charged with murder, after local police had thus far declined to arrest him pending investigation. From PRS Newswire (http://www.prnewswire.com/")

I only hope something good comes from this tragedy. Prayers and love going out to Trayvon's family and friends.

Scuzzbuckets of the Week

I haven't been riled up enough to do Scuzzbucket posts recently, but today I've been reading things that just piss me off. Here are four Scuzzbuckets I came across.

Pennsylvania Tom Corbett displays his ignorant angry old white man in this quote:

Pennsylvania Republicans have officially decided against expanding Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, arguing that covering more low-income residents would cost the state too much money. Last week, Gov. Tom Corbett (R-PA) took the debate a step further, saying that residents who are already enrolled in the program — including pregnant women and breast cancer patients — are receiving too much free care and should pay into the system. (from dailykos.com)

There's Geraldo Rivera with this quote about Trayvon Martin:

I see those six ladies in the jury putting themselves on that rainy night, in that housing complex that has just been burglarized by three or four different groups of black youngsters from the adjacent community. So it’s a dark night, a 6-foot-2-inch hoodie-wearing stranger is in the immediate housing complex. How would the ladies of that jury have reacted? I submit that if they were armed, they would have shot and killed Trayvon Martin a lot sooner than George Zimmerman did. This is self-defense. (from thejanedough.com)

The website Gawker, for publishing a photo of Trayvon Martin after he was killed (I refuse to use the word allegedly). Pretty damn cold and tacky.

The site used a huge picture of a screengrab from MSNBC, which fleetingly—and seemingly accidentally—showed Martin's corpse as image was being discussed during the George Zimmerman trial. (from the Huffingtonpost.com)

An employee of a Walmart in Ontario, Canada was fired for reporting a man who left his dog locked in his truck on a hot day.

Somewhere near the Quarter, taken in late 2011. I love how these two windows aren't aligned with each other. Much like New Orleans versus the rest of the country. To be beautiful and unique is the way to go! Stay cool!

Pelican Friday

This sunshiny pelican sits right outside of Slidell Memorial Hospital on Gause Boulevard. Entitled "Sunset Pelican", the pelican's artist is Jessica Bourgeois.

Windows Wednesday

I wanted a flag-related Windows Wednesday since it's so close to the 4th of July.

This gorgeous home is located on the coast of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.

The three flags represent the State of Louisiana, The US and the State of Mississippi.

Have a safe and happy 4th, y'all!
